Sugar Rationing in Kedah

I just realise today that sugar rationing has taken effect in Alor Star when today I was only allowed to buy a maximum of one kilogram of sugar from my local shop. This is due to the lack of sugar supply in Kedah/Perlis area.

Hope the situation will be resolved by the time my sugar stock rans out.

Cheap Domain name @ 2.99 and hard disk failure

Some of my files on my other hosting company has suffered hardware failures and they lost my accounts, well a couple of my “one-off” website are totally gone, along with some of the files that i mirrored there. Luckily I’ve transfered most of my files/work and this blog to Interunix, back a couple of week a go.

It seems that I’m not the only one who has suffered from hard disk failure, hope that you will recover soon Liew.

By the way, you can get cheap domain name @ USD2.99 from unixdomains.com, grab it quick while stock last :p, I’ve bought a couple of domain names at that price too…

I wrote this while on drugs (sleeping pills)

When you release something freely over the internet, particularly Free Software (or Open Source if you will), you usually do it in hopes that it would benefit other people who use it. I just found out that something I gave away in that same spirit was used in promoting negative sentiments and racism, something of which I did not forsee or expect.

I was in shocked for a while, but a quick chat with my online buddy makes me realised that this is not the first time that these things happens.

“as Charlie said from Numb3rs, we make tools and hope people use them responsibly, but sometimes they don’t”

“but if we stopped doing it just because of that, we’d also be losing all the good that can be done”

You can’t blame Einstein for Hiroshima, there’s so much good to be done and I won’t let anything stop me from doing things that I love to do.

Overworked and Unfortunate Incident

I felt feverish and a bit dizzy yesterday so I went up to a clinic, the doctor diagnosed me as a bit stressed and overworked. Yup, I was pretty swamped up all right, and he told me to get a lot of rest plus gave me some medications to help me sleep.

In addition, my hard disk got corrupted, and I lost most of my last month work. Fortunately, I’ve backup for all previous months, plus I’ve put my free software (open source) works on remote web/cvs server. So all I need is time to restore all those stuff back, and get things into motion.

But for the mean time, I need to relax, lie in the bed, and rest….

Today in history – tsunami 2004

I’ve read my daily subscription of “This Day in History”, this time it mentioned about tsunami that hit Southeast Asia including part of Penang, Kedah, Phuket and Acheh. It was the most devastating event of that year, the tsunami has cost many lives and places which has been struck by it are still recovering.

I remembered the event, as my daily routine was interrupted something that can be described as “unusual shaking”, almost felt like I was on a boat or a ship. The pictures on the wall are moving, and people claiming that the earth is moving, it’s an earthquake, and that’s around 10-11am, and i was shocked to learn the news of the big tidal wave that hit Penang and Kuala Muda. It could be frightening to think about what the forces of nature can do to you.
