HelpFireFox and Million Dollar Homepage preparation

If you are planning to open yet another MillionDollarHomepage clone, then I suggest you to consider having a stable server before launching it. Because HelpFirefox website has been knocked down due to overwhelming response in just a couple of day.

The website has been closed with a notice “The first 24 hours of this site has been a true success, with more than 13 800 pixels being sold.”.

Beside having a stable server, I think it would be wise if “Million Dollar Homepage” operators could register their domain(s) for a minimum of 3-4 years, because that would bring confidence to the prospective advertisers.

Nobody would want to advertise on unreliable websites, for a short (unspecific) duration of time.

del.icio.us downtime

del.icio.us, social bookmarking

I can’t post my del.icio.us bookmark due to this downtime around 1:15am MYT. The page simple gives a standard 404 Not Found error. I wasn’t aware of schedule downtime announcement by del.icio.us. Now I realised how I’ve already used to social bookmarking :D

Which GNU/Linux Distro is Right For You?

linux, gnu/linux, distro
mypapit ubuntu

I found this website while surfing the Ittutor.net forum, the Linux Distribution Chooser tries to determine what kind of GNU/Linux distro is best suited for you through a series of easy to answer questions. Suprisingly, the results are fairly accurate, my personal result was Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mandriva, Mepis and Debian.

IMHO, based on testimonials from ittutor forum, this website can help users to determine the right GNU/Linux distribution for them.

Mozilla Firefox GeoURL extension and tagging your website

firefox, mozilla firefox, geotag,geourl
I’ve forgotten that I’ve geotag my feeds and website months ago until yesterday when I came across this Mozilla Firefox extension.

What’s Geotagging?
The GeoURL provide service to geotag your website which helps people to find you geographically only by your web url. You can also find urls which are approximately close to your position. Here’s the list of websites “near” me :

mypapit geourl

How to add Geo Tag ?
Simply go to Adding yourself to GeoURL at the GeoURL website, and follow the instructions there. You have to know your longitude and latitudes in order to do this, which can be obtained through one of these websites. My personal favorite is Multimap, which i’ve already bookmarked for Malaysian users.

You can proceed to include this meta tags in between of your head tags of your website.

Finally, proceed to GeoURL ping form to tell them that your website has been geo-tagged.

GeoURL Mozilla Firefox extension
You can install this Mozilla Firefox extension, and a globe will appear on the status bar of your browser. The globe will light up when you came across a geo-tagged website. Clicking it will show it’s neighboring website, geographically.

Google Operating System With Its Own Low-Priced PC Product

operating system, google, windows, google.com

Google hit it again! This time, Google.com Inc. is making headlines by planning to offer a range of low-priced pc or other device that connects to the Internet.

It is rumored that the machine would run an operating system created by Google, not Microsoft’s Windows, which is one reason it would be so cheap ? perhaps as little as a couple of hundred dollars.

Whoa, a Google operating system? wonder how it would look like?

AcronymFinder.com sucks, use it only as your last resort

I don’t know about you guys, but I found that AcronymFinders.com service is suck beyond my level of tolerance. First of all it can’t find the most trivial acronym, and secondly its result are too damn commercial-oriented. Instead of listing the most obvious and relevant acronym, the AcronymFinder list the acronym which has the most commercial-value.

AF logo

Why? Because their result page feature links to amazon.com product finder, they are cashing in the visitor by supplying commercial oriented result! Now that’s annoying.

I suggest that people use Answers.com instead for finding acronym, not that Answers.com feature less advertisement, but because Answers.com supplies relevant acronym that is not too commercially oriented. Hopefully somebody would came up with another useful website for finding acronyms.
