I’m going to backup my Mozilla profiles but…

Mozilla Firefox Logo

I want to migrate all of my old emails and settings from my Windows box to my GNU/Linux box. Well, I heard of a program called MozBackup which can help you backup your thunderbird profile including settings, emails and preferences.

The problem is, The program only works in the Microsoft Windows platform and does not work in GNU/Linux or *BSD system. The FAQ page of this software explains that the author is rewriting the software in .NET to be use on GNU/Linux. But it isnt good enough because it’s isn’t a Free Software (philosophy side) and everybody knows that Mono still haven’t supported Windows Form quite well yet (technical feasibility side).

There are other alternatives, but all of them are meant to be executed on Microsoft Windows platform. Can anybody point me a Mozilla backup software (which automates the profile backup) which runs on GNU/Linux platform?

p/s: I know how to do this manually, I’m just asking out of curiosity if there exist an application out there which automates this procedure for GNU/Linux and *BSD platform.

Blogger Site Feed Bugs?

Have you ever encountered Blogger site feed bug where your feeds settings suddenly syndicated as “Short” summary instead of “Full” content of your post?

This thing had happened to me twice without a warning, it’s very annoying for me as I like to publish my site feeds in full. My objective of publishing the site feed in full because I want to relay information to my readers, but there’s seems some kind of bug that keeps me from doing that from time to time.

I had to change the feed setting to “Short” summary and “Full” again to counter the bug, but I believe this is not a correct way to do it. I hope blogger.com will fix this bug soon or at least provide explanations to users

Fireworks of Merdeka!

Malaysia Flag
Last night was our National Day, and as usual, they shot fireworks after the 12:00am countdown. And, as usual, the fireworks shot are really near to my house, and this time I had a camera on, so enjoy!

Selamat Menyambut Ulang Tahun Kemerdekaan ke-48!

Google talks…. well it does now!

Google Talk

Phew, I’m very busy for the last two days, and that includes updating my Google-talk contact list.

Google-talk is yet another Instant Messenger client. Much like MSN, Yahoo or AOL/ICQ instant messenger, a clear rival to Google. So Google apparently doesn’t want to be left out in the IM business and launched Google-talk (still BETA).

Google-talk official client is small and neat, without much eyecandy (including smilies), but hey, it does the work. Another addon feature is the ability to use voice-chat with your IM buddy which now almost becoming a de-facto standard in IM clients. Adding contact list to your IM client is as easy as putting their gmail id and wait for their response (much like yahoo’s and MSN).

But the interesting part is Google-talk uses Jabber/XMPP protocol instead of closed-protocol like other popular IM-providers. Unlike other IM service providers, Google actually is open about people using 3rdparty clients to connect to their servers.

The good news behind all of this is people now can connect to their google-talk accounts without worrying much about the availability of the IM clients in their respective platforms ;)

I’m tempoarily out of resourse

I wondered what the cause of the mysterious “tempoarily out of resourse” message keeps appearing in my browser. I’ve suspected it is somekind of cache server or something, well

I dont know about TMNET, but they sure blame the fault of the slow connection on the landslide at the Lantau cable landing station in Hong Kong. This causes some delay when assessing websites hosted outside of Malaysia.

Well, there’s still a lot of room for improvement, hope that TMNET will better their service soon.

Merdeka Songs

Bendera Malaysia, Jalur Gemilang

The National Day is around the corner! And I can see advertisement around for the National Day although based from my observation, it certainly less exciting than the previous year, but it’s National Day nevertheless.

Which brings me to a quest to find patriotic and National Day related-songs. Well after spending almost an hour searching for those songs on governments servers (*.gov.my), I finally came up to a conclusion, the Malaysian Government did not host any of the songs!!!! Or at least they make it hard for an average user to find it, and i do mean very hard…

Well I do found those songs scattered around the Net along with a good description about it, but none of them are from an Official government site.

Maybe some people will think “hey, it’s not a big deal, everybody knows the National Song”, or “Why are you complaining about this? Government have done so much… (insert typical politician-like speech here)”.

To me it’s just plain weird, just weird, that Malaysian government have a lot of *.gov.my site, but none of them seems to offer National Song/Patriotic to download. So what’s the use of all those ICT infrastructures are for?

Which brings me to another question, how would people know the official Negaraku song sounds like right now? I maybe not sensitive about it’s tempo, etc.The song have been officially altered before, but I’m still listening to different version of the National Song through the various radio stations, tv station, etc. How can I be sure which is the “Standard”.

Is there a standard copy of the song? How can I obtain it, economically and practically speaking? How can you be sure that the National Song distributed by non-governmental site have not been altered (tempo, rhythm, etc) ?

One more point, Malaysia is a federation consisting of 14 states and each state have their own unique state-song. Aren’t you curious about this state songs? How does it sound like?

Well here’s the collection of Patriotic/National Songs I’ve collected through the internet. But be advised, none of it came from Official Government website :

  1. Negaraku v1 (Instrumental)
  2. Negaraku v1
  3. Negaraku v2 (Metal)
  4. Negaraku v3 (March)
  5. Jalur Gemilang
  6. Keranamu Malaysia
