Simple Affiliate software script

The past few days i’ve been searching for a simple and free affiliate script to integrate into my personal project.

The reason why i chose free (as in free beer) is because I dont have the budget to spend on expensive affiliate tracking software such as iDevAffiliate, ClixGalore and TradeDoubler.

The quest brought me to PostAffiliate, which is released as GNU/GPL and it was based on PHP-Affiliate v1.2. The PostAffiliate website claim that they fixed vulnerability in PHP-Affiliate, but upon using the software, i felt that PostAffiliate 1.3 has serious flaw in which the user password is stored as a plain-text in the database!

So i’ve taken my time to touch up PostAffiliate 1.3, mainly to fix the plaintext password storing method in PostAffiliate. The password is now hashed in SHA-1 before stored in the database. I’ve also fix some potential security vulnerability point and updated the login page (I plan to clean the code as it’s too messy).

Here’s my half-assed (actually 1 hour) modifications on PostAffiliate : PostAffiliate fix

Stay tune as i’m planning to rewrite most of the postaffiliate part and release the modification under GNU/GPL.

Testing out MyKnoppix 3.9

My Knoppix 3.9

Hey hey, I’ve just tried MyKnoppix 3.9 today. According to it’s website, it is a GNU/Linux Bootable CD remastered by Knoppix Linux 3.9 CD. This release comes with no developement or library files , it contains more multimedia related programs such as Kaffiene, Mplayer and more. My knoppix supports English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Malay/Indonesian.

The CD comes with the following Softwares:
* Kernel 2.6.11
* KDE 3.4.1
* Mplayer
* Kaffeine
* SKIM – Chinese Input Method
* DVD O Matic – Rip your DVD with ease
* DVD Wizard Authoring – Create your own DVD with ease
* Acid Rip
* KaudioCreator
* Open Office 2.0 Beta
* freenx –
* videolan
* kio_burn
* Mozilla firefox/thunderbird
* Support one click playing DVD, VCD and AudioCD

But one thing still makes me wonder,is that although MyKnoppix tried it best to be a “Digital Home Digital”, I still cant figure out how can I rip audio and DVD while i’m using LiveCD? I cant even play my DVD while the LiveCD is running in my computer…

My previous post about GeexBox does almost the same job as MyKnoppix minus CD/DVD ripping stuff but still GeexBox is loaded entirely in memory leaving cd/dvd tray free for playing/ripping stuff.

However, I praise Ang Tun Chek, for making this cd available to public as well as the effort to bring remastered version (with local language) to public. Hope that this is not the last time I see MyKnoppix around…

The New Doctor Who

Rose Tyler
Ninth Doctor Eccleston
Captain Jack Harkness

Finally i’ve finished watching the entire season (Series 1) of the New Doctor Who. The new series it pretty good and seems to spot latest special effects albeit still maintaining classic “B-Movie” feel to audience.

The new series seems tailor made for newer viewers with most of the episodes are standalone. This is contrary to the Classic Doctor Who where episodes are comprised of a long story arc.

Some good episodes :
Rose – got to love the pilot to watch the entire season
Aliens in London
Dalek
Father’s day
The parting of ways

Pros : The format of the New Doctor Who is easier to understand for new viewers. Has less annoying cliffhanger episodes.

Cons : They replaced the main actor at the end of the story. No historical-background episode like the previous doctor who. Though there are Daleks, there is no Master!

Overall, it’s an entertaining sci-fi series. Except for some part that I find a bit annoying, but you got to watch it first.

Spelling differences: Analyze this, criticise that…

I live in Malaysia, and we use British English in as our second language. But if you work in computer-related field or watched too many hollywood stuff, you may encounter spelling differences between American English and British English.

Most notably is : “program” is actually “programme” in British English. “dialog” is “dialogue”, “argument” is “arguement”

analyze = analyse
critized = critised
color = colour
favorite = favourite
rooster = cock (hehe, ok i’m getting tired of this)
