Good news everyone, google now supports hosting for open source project via Google Code, for the time being Google Code only supports hosting svn account with a select few open source license such as GNU/GPL, GNU/LGPL, Apache License 2.0, MIT License, MPL 1.1, and the new BSD license variant.

Google stated in it’s code FAQ that it may support other features as well like tarball hosting, forum and bug tracking. For the time being. You can open an open source project via Google code right now providing that your project has a different name than existing project in Sourforge.net, another open source hosting service.

OpenDarwin project is going to shut down

Hexley
OpenDarwin website has posted this announcement,

Over the past few years, OpenDarwin has become a mere hosting facility for Mac OS X related projects. The original notions of developing the Mac OS X and Darwin sources has not panned out. Availability of sources, interaction with Apple representatives, difficulty building and tracking sources, and a lack of interest from the community have all contributed to this. Administering a system to host other people’s projects is not what the remaining OpenDarwin contributors had signed up for and have been doing this thankless task far longer than they expected. It is time for OpenDarwin to go dark.

Tough luck eh, Hexley

My personal workstation keyboard

Introducing my workstation keyboard, I bought it in around 2001, and been serving me well. The letter ‘Q’ broke out from the keyboard when I attempted to clean it. The letter even took part of the keyboard with it, lucky that the letter ‘Q’ is quite unpopular when typing compared to the letter ‘E’, ‘R’ or ‘D’.

If you noticed, the labelling on the keyboard are also gone, heh this is due to the toxicity of my sweat on the fingers. It swept away those letters.

well, there you go my favorite personal keyboard.

Open Graphic Card – An Alternative to Nvidia, ATI

I guess GNU/Linux users may have already familiar with the problem related to to 3d graphic cards available nowadays. While they work fine on your Linux operating system, their 3D hardware acceleration heavily depends on closed source binary-only driver.

This means that the driver bloats the system, taints the kernel, and even threat the stability of the operating system. Closed source driver means that we’ve to depend on the vendor for new releases of graphic card driver and bugfixes.

open graphic card

The open graphic card solves those problem by making all specification of the graphic card available under the terms of GNU General Public License. The open graphic card is 3D accelerated video card which is fully documented, free-licensed, and available as open source driver.

Though the open graphic card is not as powerful as the current latest ATI and NVIDIA graphic card, the project itself seems promising, with the prospect of supported free operating system such as GNU/Linux and BSD variant operating system.

According to its website, the PCI and AGP version of the graphic card is given priority first than PCI-express interface. Due to low production output, the estimated card will cost about USD 200, but it will support 3D hardware acceleration nevertheless.
