Today is the 4th of July, and i’m having a fever

Yup, it’s the 4th of july and i’m having some sort of fever, I felt a bit weak with minimal writing mood right now.

The Spam Karma i recently installed is working well, caught 800+ spams its first day, not bad at all, and oh, my website is also affected by the “Google Dance”, my daily visitor shrunk from 1200+ to 400+, I think google is removing my older posts from it search result, as I’m not getting info from them in my statistic.

I guess I better lie down right now, I’ve taken some paracetamol, hope that will help.

Howto create a simple Debian/Ubuntu Repository

So now you know how to create deb package. This time I’m going to point you to some howto that shows you how to create a Debian repository.

Why do you need to create repository? Because it’s convenience to your users, assuming that you’re a developer. Repository helps to automate software installation too in a centralised manner.

Here’s a couple of howto that teaches you to create Debian repositories :

Google Earth on Ubuntu Dapper Video

For those who are interested in installing Google Earth on their Linux PC (especially Ubuntu Dapper Drake), you can refer to this video.

It might interest you that Google Earth is easy to install despite having to use console to install it.

Xajax and side-projects

Hi there, I just want to tell you guys that i’m a bit busy lately because i’m currently doing some side-project at the moment, I can’t tell you what I’m working on just yet, but I can assure you that it has something to do with Ubuntu.

By the way on a completely different matter, I’ve been experimenting with Xajax toolkit since I always wanted to explore this toolkit for quite sometime ago. It is a simple AJAX, but powerful toolkit that allows you to easily create AJAX applications with PHP.

So far life is good down here in Alor Star, though it has been raining lately, the kind that makes you want to stay on bed longer :p

I’ll be back writing more interesting stuffs when I’ve settled out the side-project, which is due in a couple of days.

Spam Blocker Setting has been increased

I’ve increased my Spam Karma setting to foil spammers, it seems that the spam bot coders are getting more smarter now, avoiding various detections and restrictions.

Let’s see if they can find their way in my blog after i increased the settings to the highest level. Don’t worry, i’ll be still monitoring the spam db for your legitimate comments, so have a nice day :)

Evolution mail client is now available on Windows!

Evolution, the GNOME desktop email client is now available on Microsoft Windows from now on. So Evolution lover can now use their beloved email client on Windows instead of substitute it with Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.

The installer can be downloaded from itssourceforge.net project page and the download size is about 48MB. Like gaim and xchat under Windows, evolution depends heavily on GTK+ library and the application itself has a distinguish GNOME look on your desktop.

Users who are not used to Evolution on GNOME desktop might complaint about how Evolution “stands out” from other Windows application, not to mention about GTK+ quirks under Windows (the stubborn tooltips phenomenon).

All in all, it’s nice to have Evolution ported to Windows Desktop as users now have more choices of email clients, giving diversity. That’s the beauty of free software.
